As I looked up at the sky walking out of the door that day, I almost forgot I was on a leash! Literally! I saw a squirrel rather quickly, and tried to run… but was stopped by the leash. And if it wasn’t for that leash, let me tell you, I would always. Get. That. Squirrel. Look at him now, up the tree making noises as he throws down pieces of food. It makes me so mad I want to, “bark! Bark bark bark bark!”
Okay, okay, I see that it’s a nice day and I’m already distracted by tall grass. Tall grass has this way of letting me smell all over while I get a nice tickle on my face. We spend a lot of time in a patch of small grass because… it all smells so interesting..
I want to see what’s going on on the street so I march across and sniff the grass by the neighbor’s yard. I want to know why there is a car in the driveway so I go over and three women exit the car. I hear talking and then all the women say, “Canela!” and try to call me over. But, I know I go by Cinnamon so I come close and then run away to play with them.
As we move forward we see the woman with the great big dogs that I am not allowed to play with. They get in trouble for looking at me, and I’m not entirely sure they wouldn’t eat me. But I can’t help but, “bark! Bark! Bark!” Excuse me, I am typically more contained but they won’t stop looking at my favorite spot. “Bark bark!”
Okay, let’s move on. It looks like I’ve circled this block in my excitement and we are back by the house, but I don’t, don’t want to go home. So I gleefully march away from the house as though it’s a part of our plan.
I quickly realize my mistake as the other side of the road has no areas that are.. you know, dark without so much light and heat.. so I run to the other side of the road and cool off from the sun.
Suddenly, I am overcome. I hear a bark this way, and that, and then birds chirping overhead and in the distance.. squirrels making sounds and people far away.. so I look this way, and that. This way, and that. This way, and oh yea.. I wanted to lick part of my tail so I lay down and attend to that, forgetting all about the stimulation of the world, just like that.
I jump up as I see the approaching dog. Will he come my way? Do I want him to? I sniff and jump in his direction. He gets so close we almost sniff! Now I need to follow his path so I can pee everywhere he has peed.
I follow a flowery path and I stop to smell a new kind of grass that has captured me. I sniff with my whole body, the way a dog does. Something feels funny, so I shake it out. Ooh, that feels good. You know how a good shake just allows you to let it all go? Ahh.
Now there is a bug going from one blade of grass to the next. I try to: Chomp, chomp! But I keep missing this bug. I continue this for quite awhile before I feel something shift.
Oh no! It’s time to go home. But no, I refuse. I sit still in the middle of the street and then I fully lay down to show my refusal.
To my horror, I am whisked up into the arms of my owner and carried, like a pet! But hey, there’s a great view from here.. and I can’t really complain, we will be back out here in no time!
And to be honest, every day is a special day when you embody your full doggo spirit. Just give your tail a little wag, give a small growl deep in your belly, and then shake out anything that bothers you. If nothing else, I’ve always found a good nap to do the trick!
Love, Cinnamon
