From: Cinnamon, with Love

Today was one of those days where, you know, you wake up and you’re waiting for your walk and, you know, I mean you really know it’s time. The tiny humans keep passing you by and you are just searching for eyes to see you cock your head just so…

What, am I invisible here? “Bark, Bark!” I finally say. Although I would say it’s more of a translation of, “it’s time, it’s been time, and you will not ruin our sacred morning mission!”, or something like that.

So I finally got the attention of the older smaller one and we got out. And look, I’m not complaining. But she held this little box in front of her face the whole time and didn’t even notice when I needed to stop sometimes! So I just had to suck it up and wait for the glorious walk the bigger human would give me later.

To add insult to injury, my enemy was standing right there as I arrived back at my house. A house, mind you, that I guard very carefully, always barking at the precise time I need to. Okay, many may not agree but I promise I always have a good reason!

So this cat is looking at me and flicking her tail, teasing me. So, as usual, I chase her inside and make sure she runs away. This is the only time I can dominate the cat, when the humans are around. Take that, you evil…

Okay, hold on, something is different. Everyone is getting ready to leave. Oh dear, I hate when this happens! Are they taking me? Are they leaving me? Won’t someone look into my cute puppy dog eyes and let me know? Not that I could understand them, but I am anxious! I run in circles around the humans.

The bigger human picks up the leash, and I know I am going. This is going to be a great day.

The car ride is both fun and horrible. Fun because I get to put my head out of the window and sniff all of the wonderful scents, and horrible because of the twists and turns on the road.

Finally, the kids are dropped off and it’s just me and my favorite human. We take off right away from the last drop off, ready for adventure!

Since we always find a new place, I like to run with excitement. Often, she runs with me. Today, she did!

We came to a bush that I just had to smell. I had to figure out where the smells were coming from and… oh my, what was that, a squirrel?

I take off running only to realize that I am at the length of my leash and my little paws are flying through the air. I stay for several minutes to be teased by the likes of this annoying little creature. You know, one day, I will catch one.

So I move on as I hear water. We pass over a thing that curves over the water so we can walk over a tiny stream. I like this curve, it’s solid and not too high like the others.

I’m ready to have some fun. So I pretend I’m all okay with the curve, and then I back track to quickly jump through the creek and sniff the rocks. I am immediately sorry as I feel all my fur sticking to me so, so I shake off and get back on track.

As I look up ahead, I freeze. Another one of the furry things that I know will love me. Every time, I tell you, I just jump all over them and they love me. Well, most of them.

Okay, if we are going to catch up so we can “get to know each other” (you know, dog stuff), I need to move faster. But ooohhh wait this thing is flying through the air near me, and I suddenly hear the sound of something loud! This guy is riding this loud machine that makes the grass smaller. He’s far enough away, but I want to stare at him for awhile just to make sure he’s not coming any closer…

Oh no! I forgot about my potential future friend. It’s okay though, they have walked this way so I pick up their scent when I can and start the war of “who peed here last”, the most fun game in the dog world since… ever? I’m not really sure.

We deviate from the path as I follow my nose, and then my eyes that lead me through a gate. I really want to go to the other side, and here the door is, opened!

I travel through the door and along the gate. By the time I turn a corner and see nets in the middle of the big space, I worry that I am fenced in. I start to panic, and my big owner runs with me to assure me there is another gate door that will open for me, and that I am not stuck. I have never been crated, you see.. I’ve got more of a free spi…

Whee!! There is my favorite kind of grass, and there are tiny trees out here! I am running at full pace and my owner slips off her shoes and joins me. I play the game where I dart to one side of the tree as a fake-me-out before heading to the other. I think this is fun for the big human, because she is definitely making a noise.

We come back to the path and I take a deep breath, relaxing back into the smells and scenery. I take my time to sniff passing fences, rocks and those really soft grasses that I love to rub against my face.

Finally, we get to meet another furry like me! But it’s so much bigger! As my person talks to the other dog’s person, we play a game of “will I or won’t I”, then “can I sinff that”, followed by “let’s see who makes the first move”. As I showed off that I was the most energetic, we needed to leave. I think I make a lot of dogs tired! I mean, I’m just so new, I’m only two, and… *yawn*

I fall asleep on the car ride back, my head lulling against my person’s arms and my body safe in her lap. I don’t know what the rest of the day holds, but I am satisfied enough to take a nap. So, goodnight, good dog wishes to you, and may you sniff as many sniffs as your heart desires.
